The knowledge base gathers our explainer articles about renting mobile scaffolding. Useful if you have never rented scaffolding before and simply want to know where to start.

Where to start as a beginner

The articles follow a logical order. Start with the height: measure how high the point is that you need to reach, so the gutter, the window or the ceiling. That point matches a working height, not a platform height. Only once the height is fixed does it become clear which scaffold you need and how many sections to order. Skip that first step and you easily end up with a tower that falls just short.

The model comes next. Outside and along a facade the narrow RS51 works well, while the wider RS52 suits jobs with more material or longer spells at height. Indoors there is the RS44 room scaffold, which fits through an interior door from roughly 70 cm, and for smaller one person jobs the MiTower goes up to 6 metres working height. Terms and sizes that keep returning

The difference between working height and platform height causes the most confusion. Working height is the platform height plus roughly 2 metres of reach, because you stand on the platform and work with your hands above your head. So a table entry of 8 metres working height puts you at about 6 metres. Always count back from the point you need to reach down to the platform, and you will order the right height.

The same measurements keep returning as well. The platform is 245 cm long. The RS51 is 75 cm wide, so it fits through narrow passages and between obstacles, while the RS52 is 135 cm wide and gives you more room to stand and work. The mobile towers are available from 4.2 to 14.2 metres working height, in steps of about one metre. Measure the passage and the spot in advance so assembly does not stall.

Safety runs through every article

Safety comes back in every article. The mobile towers are built to EN 1004 and fall in load class 3, which works out at 200 kg per square metre of platform. That includes you, your tools and your materials, so spread the weight instead of stacking everything in one corner. Set the tower on flat, load bearing ground; soft soil, loose paving or a slope need attention before you start building.

A few rules apply throughout. Fit the stabilisers exactly as the assembly diagram in the manual prescribes, because they determine how steady the tower stands at height. Put the wheels on the brake as soon as the tower is in place, and never move it with someone on it or with tools left on the platform. If the wind picks up, stop working and clear loose items off the platform.

From reading to renting

Once you know which tower you need, you reserve online and pick your own delivery date and collection date. Order before 15:00 on a working day and the scaffold arrives the next working day. Prefer to collect it yourself? That is free by appointment at Zeeburgerpad in Amsterdam. Delivery to the Wadden Islands and to addresses outside the Netherlands is not possible.

The rental rule is simple: you pay the full rate for the first 24 hours and every following day comes with 95% off, so a longer job stays affordable. The scaffold arrives as a complete, counted set of parts and is collected again afterwards. You build it yourself, using the manual supplied and the video. The deposit is back in your account within 1 working day after the return.

More frequently asked questions

I have no idea which scaffold I need. Where do I start?

Start with the height. Measure the highest point you have to reach and do not add anything yourself: the table works with working height, which is the platform height plus roughly 2 metres of reach. Then look at the spot. If it is narrow or you have to pass through an opening, the RS51 fits better; with space and plenty of material, choose the RS52.

Do I need a course or certificate to use a mobile tower?

We do not ask for a course or certificate when you rent. What the scaffold itself asks is that you follow the manual: the assembly diagram, the stabilisers and the maximum load. Work through the manual and the video calmly before you start. If you are working for a company, check with your client which requirements apply on that site.

Is the manual included with the scaffold?

Yes. Every scaffold comes with the Altrex manual, including the assembly diagram for your height, and there is a video that shows the build step by step. The tower is delivered as a complete, counted set of parts, so you can use the diagram to check that everything is there before you start building.

How long does it take to build a mobile tower?

That depends on the height and on whether you have done it before. A low tower usually goes up quickly with two people, while at greater heights most of the time goes into sorting, lifting and fitting the stabilisers. Take your time on the first build, lay the parts out beforehand and work through the assembly diagram from the bottom upwards.

What if I get stuck while building?

Stop there and do not climb any higher. Take the manual and look up the step that belongs to your height in the assembly diagram; usually a part is still the wrong way round or sits on the wrong rung. If that does not solve it, call or email us and we will go through it with you.
