What the price of a scaffold is made up of

What you end up transferring consists of three items: the hire of the equipment, the delivery and collection, and a deposit. Only the first two are real costs. You advance the deposit and get it back after return, so leave it out of your budget when you work out what a job costs.

The hire rate depends on the model and the working height and runs from €50 to €325 per day. The first hire day is the full rate, every following day costs 5 percent of it. At the lowest rate that is €3 per extra day, which is why seven days is not seven times the day rate but €65, and thirty days comes to €123. Delivery and collection sit in one fixed amount per province, both trips together, with no mileage. In the core area that is €150; what it is for your province is on scaffold delivery costs. Collecting it yourself is also possible, free of charge by appointment, at Zeeburgerpad 89 in Amsterdam.

The deposit differs per model and per collection method: on delivery €500 for a scaffold tower or MiTower and €150 for a room scaffold, on self collection €1.000 for a scaffold tower and €750 for a MiTower. How the deposit is charged and refunded is on scaffold hire deposit.

From the job to the right working height

The price follows from the model and the height, so you settle those two first. Working height is not the same as platform height: working height is the platform height plus 2 metres, because from the platform your hands reach roughly 2 metres higher. A gutter at 6 metres therefore does not need a platform at 6 metres, but a scaffold with 6 metres of working height, with you standing at 4 metres.

The range runs from 4,2 to 14,2 metres of working height. If you do not know the exact height of the work point, choose by floor instead: first floor and up each have a page with the heights that go with them. The sizes per step are listed under working height.

• Measure or estimate the highest point your hands need to reach, for example the underside of the gutter or the top of the window frame.
• Subtract 2 metres from it. That is the platform height you need; take the next working height that goes past it.
• Check how the equipment reaches the work site: through an interior door, through a gate, up a driveway or along a narrow path. That route decides the model more often than the height does.
• Check how much width you have and how many people will stand on it. A narrow platform fits past almost anything, a wide platform gives two people room side by side plus buckets and materials.

Which model suits which kind of job

Four models cover the whole range. The difference lies less in the day rate than in what they fit through and how much working room you get on top.

All four are Altrex scaffolds to EN 1004 in load class 3, meaning 200 kg per m2 of people and materials combined. On that point there is nothing to choose between them.

What separates the four models in price and use

The RS51 and the RS52 are the same scaffold in two widths: 75 cm and 135 cm, both with a platform length of 245 cm and a working height up to 14,2 metres. The narrow one passes a gate or a path where the wide one gets stuck, the wide one gives two people room side by side and space for buckets, sealant or roof tiles. The RS44 room scaffold is built for indoor work. It fits through a standard interior door from about 70 cm, so you roll it from room to room instead of breaking it down every time. For ceiling work, stairwells and interior painting that is the whole difference; the rates are on room scaffold hire costs.

The MiTower is the one person scaffold up to 6 metres of working height, designed to be built up on your own. For a light fitting, a window frame, a blind or a short repair that is enough equipment, and it needs little space to set down. Costs on MiTower hire costs.

What does not change the price

The number of kilometres does not count. Delivery and collection together are one fixed amount per province, whether you are ten or eighty kilometres from Amsterdam, and within the same province everyone pays the same. Which area your address falls under is on service area.

The floor you are working on does not change the delivery rate. It only decides which working height you pick, and with that the day rate of the model.

Assembly is not in the price and cannot be added. We deliver the equipment, you build it up yourself using the manual and the instruction video that come with it. So there are no assembly charges and no waiting for a fitter.

Private or business makes no difference to the rate. Business invoicing with VAT is available, and the amount at the bottom stays the same.

What comes with the hire price

You hire Altrex equipment that meets EN 1004 in load class 3. That means 200 kg per m2 of people and materials, which is the class that belongs with professional scaffold tower work.

Every delivery comes with the manual and an instruction video, so you build the scaffold up and take it down as prescribed. We do not deliver it assembled, so allow time for the build when you plan the job.

Ordered before 15:00 means delivered the next working day, anywhere in the Netherlands. Collection sits in the same amount as delivery, so there is nothing to drive back at the end.

Ordering, paying and getting the deposit back

Payment has to be in at the latest one day before delivery. Allow for that if your date is tight: a later payment pushes the first hire day back.

The deposit runs separately from the hire and is back within one working day after return. On self collection the deposit is higher than on delivery, and the room scaffold has its own amount.
