Mobile scaffold hire with 4 metres working height
Four metres of working height is the lowest size we rent out and it covers everything on the ground floor that a step ladder no longer reaches comfortably. The platform sits at around two metres, which puts your hands at roughly four metres. Think of window frames, a front door, the lowest band of cladding or a four metre ceiling indoors.

Platform height versus working height
The platform height is the height of the work platform itself, measured from the ground. The working height is the platform height plus approximately 2 metres reach height of an average adult standing on the platform. A working height of 4 metres therefore corresponds to a platform height of approximately 2 metres.

The jobs that happen at four metres
At four metres of working height you are on the lowest strip of the facade. Sanding and painting window frames, replacing the sealant around the glass, touching up the front door and the fanlight above it, swapping an outside light or a house number, or dealing with the skirting and the bottom row of cladding. Repointing brickwork up to just below the first floor belongs to this size as well. You stand close to the work and finish a whole frame from one set-up.
Indoors, four metres is the size for a living room or hallway with a high ceiling. Hanging a light above the stairwell, fitting a smoke alarm, patching plaster, painting the wall along a void or mounting a curtain rail. On a tower both hands stay free and you do not step down every few minutes to move a ladder. Do make sure the floor is flat and firm enough, and lock the brakes on the castors before you climb.
One lift of frames, usually a one person job
Four metres of working height means a single lift of frames on the adjustable legs. That is the smallest number of parts we deliver, and building it takes noticeably less time than a taller set-up. You roll the base into position, level it with the legs, click the platform in place, fit the guard rails all round and drop in the toe boards. Then you lock every castor before you go up.
The mistakes at this height are nearly always the same. People skip a guard rail because it is only two metres, climb up the outside instead of going through the trapdoor, or leave tools lying on the platform while they push the tower along. Do the sums on weight as well: load class 3 stands for 200 kg per square metre, and a few bags of material add up faster than you expect.
Which tower suits this height
For outdoor work you choose between the RS51 and the RS52. The RS51 is 75 cm wide and slips along a fence, between a hedge and the wall or down a narrow garden path. The RS52 is 135 cm wide and gives you room for paint tins, a tool box and a second person. Both have a platform length of 245 cm, and the range starts at 4.2 metres of working height, which is exactly this category.
Indoors the RS44 room tower is the obvious choice: it fits through an internal door from about 70 cm, so you move it from room to room without stripping it down. If you would rather work on your own, the MiTower is designed as a one person tower up to 6 metres of working height. Everything arrives as a complete set of parts and is collected afterwards; you build it yourself with the manual and the video.
Safety at 4 metres
Our mobile scaffolds meet the European standard EN 1004. Always lock the castors as soon as you stand on the platform, use the guardrails, and never move the scaffold while someone is on it. Do not work in wind force 6 or higher, certainly not at greater working heights such as 4 metres.
Frequently asked questions
Does four metres of working height reach the ground floor window frames?
Yes. The platform stands at around two metres and you add roughly two metres of reach on top of that. You end up level with the head of a normal ground floor frame and you work with both hands, instead of leaning sideways off a ladder to get into the corners.
Will a four metre tower fit through my internal door?
The RS44 room tower is made for that and fits through an internal door from about 70 cm, so you can move it in one piece from the hall to the living room. The RS51 and RS52 go inside as loose parts and are assembled in the spot where you need them.
Can I build this height on my own?
Usually yes. The MiTower is designed as a one person tower up to 6 metres of working height, and with a single lift of frames the parts stay short and manageable. With the RS51 or RS52 a second pair of hands is handy for passing frames up, but at this height it is rarely essential.
Can I collect the tower myself?
You can, free of charge and by appointment, at Zeeburgerpad 89, 1019 AD Amsterdam. You take a complete set of parts with you. If you prefer delivery, an order placed before 15:00 arrives the next working day. We collect the set afterwards and the deposit is back in your account within one working day.
