Mobile scaffold for the 2nd floor
On the second floor you are at around 8 metres of working height: the level of the gutter, the dormer and the wall above the first floor. Here it is not only the height that counts but also the space at the bottom, because the stabilisers stick out and take up a stretch of pavement or garden. So measure both upwards and all around.

Which working height do you need?
At second-floor height you usually end up with a working height of around 8 metres. At this height stability is extra important, so many customers deliberately choose the wider RS52 instead of the narrow RS51.
Working height is not the same as platform height: the working height is the platform height plus approximately 2 metres reach height of an average adult. If you are between two heights, most customers prefer the taller one, so that you do not have to stretch or stand on your toes while working.

Gutter, dormer and the wall above the first floor
At around eight metres of working height you reach the gutter, the fascia and the underside of the roof. Common jobs are clearing out and rinsing the gutter, fitting leaf guards, sanding and painting fascia boards, sealing a leaking gutter joint and touching up the cheeks and frame of a dormer. The brickwork and pointing above the first floor windows also sit at this level.
A dormer or an overhanging roof can literally be in your way while building. Look beforehand at how far the gutter projects and how far the roof oversails, because the top guardrail still has to pass it. With a dormer it is often easier to stand the tower just beside it and work sideways than to face it head on. A sloping roof above you also asks for extra care when you fit the last lift.
Room for the stabilisers on the pavement or in the garden
The higher the build, the further the stabilisers reach outwards. Count on the tower being considerably wider at the bottom than the 245 cm platform length that sits above it. On the street side that often means part of the pavement becomes unusable; make sure pedestrians can pass safely and check with your local council in advance about using the public space.
In a back garden you meet different obstacles: a border, a shed, a water butt or a fence exactly where a stabiliser needs to go. Clear that zone before you start and put nothing back while the tower stands. A stabiliser belongs with its full foot on firm, level ground; on grass or soft soil put a board underneath. Never wedge one against a wall to win space.
Lifts, material and wind at eight metres
Eight metres of working height comes down to about 6 metres of platform height, so a clearly taller build than on the floors below. You build it yourself with the manual and the video; we deliver the complete set of parts and collect it again afterwards. Take your time, check lift by lift that the braces and guardrails are complete, and preferably work with two people so someone can pass parts up from below.
Wind is a serious factor at eight metres, especially on a gable end or along an open ditch or field. Gutter cladding, sheet material and tarpaulins catch a lot of wind and do not belong loose on the platform. Bring material up in small quantities; load class 3 allows 200 kg per m2, but that includes you. The narrow RS51 at 75 cm fits along a path, while the RS52 at 135 cm gives more room to work. Frequently asked questions
How much working height do I need for the gutter?
On a two storey house the gutter often sits at around eight metres, but that varies with the age and type of the building. Measure from the ground to the gutter and subtract roughly 2 metres of reach; that is the platform height you need. The RS51 and RS52 are available from 4.2 to 14.2 metres of working height.
How much room do the stabilisers take up?
More than many people expect: at this build height they stand a fair way outside the frame on every side. Keep a clear strip all around the tower and move borders, bikes, planters and garden furniture out of the way. On the pavement a safe route must remain for pedestrians; otherwise check with your council beforehand.
Can I work past a dormer or an overhanging roof?
Usually yes, but plan the position in advance. Stand the tower just beside the dormer and work sideways, so the top guardrail does not hit the cheek or the gutter. Also look at how far the roof oversails, because the top lift still has to pass under or beside it without leaving you standing at an angle.
What if the job takes several days?
That is no problem. You pay the full rate for the first 24 hours and every following day comes with 95% off. With gutter and wall work at this height that helps, because you are rarely finished in a day. The deposit is refunded within 1 working day after the complete set has been collected.
Do you assemble the scaffold, or do I do that myself?

Can I choose a lower working height for the 2nd floor to save money?
You can, but we advise against cutting it too fine: too little working height means you still have to stretch or stand on your toes, which is less safe. Choose a slightly taller working height rather than one right on the limit.
