Below you will find the answers to the questions we get most often about renting a mobile scaffold tower. They cover choosing the right height, the differences between the models, delivery and collection, and working safely on the platform. Read through them before you book, so you know exactly what arrives and what you need to do yourself.

Choosing the right working height

The working height of a tower is the platform height plus roughly 2 metres of reach. Standing on a platform at 4 metres, your hands reach about 6 metres. So do not measure the tower or your ladder; measure the highest point you actually need to get to, such as the gutter, the top of a window frame or the ridge of a shed roof.

Measure from the ground where the tower will stand, not from a balcony or a step. If your measurement falls between two sizes, take the larger one. A little extra height is more comfortable in practice than sitting exactly on the limit, because you are not stretching and you keep some margin for uneven ground or a thicker roof edge. The towers are available from 4.2 to 14.2 metres working height, in steps of about 1 metre.

Which model suits your job

For outdoor work you choose between two mobile towers with the same platform of 245 cm long. The RS51 is 75 cm wide, so it fits through narrow gates, along a garden path and between a shed and a fence. The RS52 is 135 cm wide and gives you noticeably more room on the platform, which helps when you take tools, paint or buckets of plaster up with you and stay in one spot for hours.

For work indoors the RS44 room tower is the obvious choice. It passes through an interior door from about 70 cm wide, so you can move it from room to room without taking it apart completely. If you work alone and stay below 6 metres, the MiTower is often enough: a one person tower that is compact and quick to put up. All models are made by Altrex.

Delivery, collection and the rental period

Delivery and collection are combined in one fixed price per province, including VAT, so you know the cost before you book. Order on a working day before 15:00 and the tower is at your address the next working day. Delivery to the Wadden Islands and to addresses outside the Netherlands is not possible. When you make the reservation you pick the delivery date and the collection date yourself.

If you would rather drive yourself, you can collect the tower free of charge by appointment at Zeeburgerpad 89 in Amsterdam. The rental period is simple: the first 24 hours are charged at the full rate, and every day after that comes with 95% off. Keeping the tower longer therefore adds very little, which makes a job that runs for a week easy to plan. Your deposit is returned within 1 working day after collection.

Building it yourself and working safely

We do not build the tower for you. You receive a complete, counted set of parts and assemble it yourself using the manual and the assembly video that come with it. That is less daunting than it sounds: with two people, a tower of average height is usually standing within an hour. Follow the order given in the manual, never skip guardrails or toe boards, and check that every part is properly locked.

The towers meet EN 1004 and fall into load class 3, which means 200 kg per m2 of people, tools and materials. Set the tower on firm, level ground, level it out and lock the wheel brakes before you climb. Never move the tower with someone on it, and do not leave loose material lying on the platform. When the wind picks up strongly, stop working and come down.

More frequently asked questions

What exactly is delivered?

You get a complete mobile tower as a counted set of parts: frames, platforms with a hatch, guardrails, toe boards, castors and stabilisers, together with the manual. The set is counted before it leaves and counted again when it is collected. You do not have to buy anything extra; you only bring the tools you need for your own job.

Can I keep the tower for longer than planned?

Usually yes. Let us know as soon as you realise the job is running over, and we will move the collection date. The extra days are charged the same way as the rest of the period: after the first 24 hours, every following day carries 95% off. Do not wait until the collection day itself, because the driver is already scheduled by then.

What should I do when it rains?

Rain does not harm the tower, but platforms and rungs get slippery. Work more slowly, wipe the platform dry before you step onto it and keep your shoes clean. In a thunderstorm or strong wind, come down and wait until the weather turns. The rental period keeps running in bad weather, so if the forecast looks doubtful, plan an extra day when you book.

Can two people stand on the platform at once?

On the RS51 and the RS52 that is fine, as long as you stay within load class 3: 200 kg per m2 for people, tools and materials together. Spread the weight and do not stack material in one corner. The MiTower is a one person tower, so only one person should be on it at a time. If in doubt, keep a margin.

What if a part is damaged or missing?

Call or email us as soon as you notice it, even in the middle of the job. Do not use a damaged part and do not build it into the tower. We will then look at what is needed and whether the part can be replaced. Always report it before the tower is collected, because the set is counted again on return and it will show up anyway.
