The platform height is the height of the work platform itself, measured from the ground. The working height is the platform height plus approximately 2 metres reach height of an average adult standing on the platform. A working height of 14 metres therefore corresponds to a platform height of approximately 12 metres.

The end of the range: what you do from a platform at 12 metres
From this platform your hands reach about 14 metres. That is the roof edge of a tall house, the top few metres of a gable, a dormer, a chimney or the gutter of a building with high storeys. Work at this height is often short but precise: a leak at the gutter, a loose tile, a piece of zinc or the paintwork on the highest window frames.
If 14 metres of working height still leaves you just short of the point you need to reach, the answer is not a ladder or a crate on the platform. Measure the facade again from the street and count the storey heights. Above this height the available range of the mobile towers stops and you need a different type of structure. Better to measure once more than to reach that conclusion while standing at 12 metres.
Wind and anchoring: what changes at 12 metres
Wind is the factor most likely to decide your day at this height. Between two buildings or on a street corner the wind speeds up and you feel that on the platform straight away. Do not carry on working when it blows hard, do not hoist large sheets or tarpaulins up, and do not leave a cover hanging on the tower, because it catches the wind like a sail. Check the structure every morning before you start.
Extend the stabilisers fully and adjust them so that the tower keeps contact with the ground everywhere. Follow the manual for anchoring to the facade at the points where that is prescribed, because at this build height it is not an optional extra. Never leave loose items on the platform when you go down, not even during a fifteen minute break. What falls from 12 metres lands hard.
Build sequence, materials and the time the job takes
You build the tower yourself, layer by layer, always fitting the guard rails before you stand higher. Lay all the parts out on the ground first and sort them per layer, otherwise you will be hunting halfway up for a brace that is at the bottom of the pile. With two or three people it goes noticeably faster: one below hands parts up, one on the platform builds, and there is always someone watching.
Allow a good two hours for the build if you do not do this every week, plus time for taking it down. The tower comes to you as a complete set of parts and is collected again afterwards. Order before 15:00 and the set is ready the next working day. Collection is free by appointment at Zeeburgerpad 89 in Amsterdam, but bear in mind that a set for this height takes up a lot of room in a van.
Safety at 14 metres
Our mobile scaffolds meet the European standard EN 1004. Always lock the castors as soon as you stand on the platform, use the guardrails, and never move the scaffold while someone is on it. Do not work in wind force 6 or higher, certainly not at greater working heights such as 14 metres.

How many people do I need for a tower with 14 metres of working height?
Two at the very least, and three works more comfortably. One person on the ground hands parts up and keeps the set in order while the building happens above. On your own you will be at it far longer at this height and you lose the second pair of eyes that checks whether everything is locked and level.
When should I stop working because of the wind?
As soon as you notice the wind pulling at your material or you have to find your balance on the platform, stop. At 12 metres the effect of a gust is much greater than on the ground. Do not leave tarpaulins or covers hanging on the structure when you leave either.
Is 14 metres of working height the maximum?
The towers are available from 4.2 to 14.2 metres working height, so this sits at the very top of the range. If you need more, you end up with a different type of structure that we do not supply. Measure carefully beforehand to be sure this height brings you to your work position.
How long can I keep the tower and how does it get back to you?
The first 24 hours are at the full rate and every following day comes with 95 percent off, so a job spread over several days is quite workable. The set is collected from you again afterwards, and the deposit is back in your account within one working day.
