Platform height versus working height
The platform height is the height of the work platform itself, measured from the ground. The working height is the platform height plus approximately 2 metres reach height of an average adult standing on the platform. A working height of 7 metres therefore corresponds to a platform height of approximately 5 metres.

The gutter and dormer of an average terraced house
With the platform at five metres, your hands work at the level of the gutter and fascia board of a typical terraced house. That is the zone for flushing out or replacing a gutter, refixing a downpipe, fitting bird comb and painting the underside of a dormer. Second floor windows partly come into range as well, so you can finish the whole upper band of the wall from one position instead of two.
Many people land on this height after considering six metres and then going out with a tape measure. Two metres of reach is not a promise that you can sand above your head for an hour; comfortable work happens between hip and shoulder. Measure from the spot where the tower will really stand and allow for a sloping garden or a sunken path, because that easily accounts for half a metre.
Where the stabilisers sit and what wind does
From this height upwards the stabilisers are no longer an extra but a fixed part of the build. They angle outwards from the base, so the strip around the tower has to be clear. Move bikes, planters and the wheelie bin out of the way in advance and check whether a gate or a car door can still open. On a narrow pavement that space often decides whether you can use the 75 centimetre RS51 or the wider 135 centimetre RS52.
The ground matters more here than it does at four metres of platform. A tower standing on loose sand or a rocking paving slab will move noticeably at five metres. Wind plays a bigger part too: the wall funnels gusts along the tower, and the higher the deck the more you feel it. Do not hang sheeting or film on the frame, lock the castors and follow the manual for the stabilisers and anchoring at this height.
Building with two people and getting material up
Seven metres means a few more levels than six, and you notice that most when parts are being passed up. It works best when one of you stands on the platform while the other hands up frames, braces and deck sections. Sort the parts on the ground first.
Think about your materials as well. Do not climb up with a full paint tin or a sealant gun in one hand; hoist things in stages with a bucket on a rope and use a tool bag. Load class 3 stands for 200 kilos per square metre, so you and your materials fit easily, but you still do not want your entire stock stacked on the deck. With a platform length of 245 centimetres you cover a decent stretch of wall per set up.
Safety at 7 metres

Why choose seven metres instead of six for a terraced house?
On a home with two full storeys the gutter usually sits just above what six metres reaches comfortably. At seven metres you stand on a platform of about five metres and work on the gutter at chest to shoulder height rather than constantly above your head. Measure from the ground where the tower will stand.
What should I clear away before the tower is delivered?
The stabilisers angle outwards from the base, so you need a clear strip all around. Move bikes, planters and the bin before the delivery arrives and check whether a gate still opens. On a tight pavement this often decides whether the narrow RS51 is more practical than the wider RS52.
Do I need a second person to build it?
