Frequently asked questions

What does it cost to hire a room scaffold per day?

The first day costs €50 and every following day €3, which is 5 percent of the daily rate. €75 is the highest daily rate for this model. Three days comes to €55.

Does a room scaffold fit through an ordinary interior door?

Yes, the RS44 goes through a standard interior door from about 70 cm. You carry the parts in loose and build it in the room, so measure the narrowest frame and the turns along the route, not just the door of the room you are working in.

How much deposit do I pay for a room scaffold?

The deposit is €150 and it is the same whether you have it delivered or collect it yourself. With the mobile towers the deposit does depend on how you get it, €500 on delivery and €1.000 on collection. You get the deposit back within one working day after return.

Is a room scaffold really cheaper than a mobile tower?

Yes, on two counts: the daily rate starts at €50 and the deposit is €150 instead of €500. Delivery costs the same, because that is a fixed amount per province regardless of the model.

Will a room scaffold damage my parquet or laminate?

Not if you sweep the floor first and put something under the castors; it is sand and grit under a castor that scratch, not the castor itself. Hardboard or a double layer of cardboard under the four castors is enough.

Do you assemble the room scaffold for me?

No, we do not build scaffolds and we do not deliver them assembled. It arrives as loose parts with a manual and an instruction video, and you build it yourself in the room where you are going to work.

Can I use the room scaffold outdoors?

For outdoor work it is rarely the right choice, because it is low and on a facade or a gutter you will not get far enough with a room scaffold. For facade work take a mobile tower and pick the working height the job needs.

What a room scaffold costs per day

A room scaffold starts at €50 for the first day. That is the full rate, and €75 is the highest daily rate listed for this model. Every extra day you keep it costs 5 percent of the daily rate, so €3. A three day job therefore comes to €55.

That price covers the complete set: frames, platform, guard rails, the manual and the instruction video. It is Altrex equipment to EN 1004 in load class 3, which means 200 kg per m2 on the platform. You assemble it yourself; we do not build scaffolds and we do not deliver them assembled.

If you keep it for two weeks or a month the 5 percent per day simply continues; how that adds up is set out on the weekly price page. Payment has to be in one day before delivery at the latest, and an invoice with VAT is no problem.

Why a room scaffold is cheaper than a mobile tower

A room scaffold is low and wide, and that is where the price difference comes from. It uses fewer frames, fewer braces and fewer platform sections than a tower that has to reach 14.2 metres of working height. With an RS51 or RS52 you pay for every lift you build, and indoors you do not need those lifts. What a mobile tower costs is on mobile tower hire costs.

The second difference is the deposit. For the room scaffold it is €150. For an RS51 or RS52 the deposit is €500 on delivery and €1.000 if you collect it yourself, and for a MiTower €750 on collection. For indoor work you put down considerably less, and that amount comes back to you after return.

What you do not save on is delivery. That is a fixed amount per province and it does not depend on the model: having a room scaffold brought to you costs the same as having a mobile tower brought to you. If you want to keep the bill down, collect the room scaffold yourself.

Through the door and along the hallway: what to measure

The RS44 exists for exactly this problem. It fits through a standard interior door from about 70 cm, which is narrower than the slimmest tower we stock: the RS51 is 75 cm wide and gets stuck in a frame like that. You carry the parts in loose and assemble the scaffold in the room itself, so what matters is the narrowest point on the route, not the scaffold as a whole.

Before you order, take a tape measure and walk the route the parts have to travel, from the front door to the spot where you will be working.

  • The narrowest door frame on the way, measured from stop to stop rather than wall to wall.
  • The turn in the hallway or on the landing, because the longest part has to go round it.
  • The room to turn at the bottom and the top of the stairs.
  • The floor to ceiling height in the work room, including any beam or suspended ceiling.
  • The clear floor around the work spot, so the scaffold stands on all four castors on a level surface.

Ceiling height decides how high you go

Working height is platform height plus 2 metres. Outdoors you count upwards to the point you want to reach, but indoors it works the other way round: the ceiling decides where the platform ends up. Measure from floor to ceiling, subtract the height at which you can comfortably work with your arm extended, and what is left is the platform height you need.

Do not forget the thickness of your own shoes and the height of a bucket or tool box on the platform, because that is where the clearance disappears. A suspended ceiling, a beam or a light fitting you leave hanging costs centimetres too.

If indoors you need to get above what a room scaffold reaches, in a hall, a stairwell or a void, it is no longer a room scaffold job. Pick the working height that suits the space and budget for a mobile tower instead.

Floor protection, castors and brakes

Indoors you are standing on parquet, laminate, a poured floor or tiles, and that is what the hire desk gets asked about most. The castors themselves do little damage, but sand and grit underneath one certainly do. Sweep the floor where the scaffold will stand and put something under the castors: a piece of hardboard, a double layer of cardboard or an old floor mat all work.

The scaffold stays where you put it as long as the castors are braked. Lock all four brakes before you start assembling, and leave them locked for as long as anyone is on the platform.

  • Sweep the floor where the castors will stand, and only then start building.
  • All four castors on the brake, including during a short break.
  • Never move the scaffold with someone on the platform or tools left on it.
  • To move it, take the loose items off first, release the brakes, roll it, then lock the brakes again straight away.
  • Clear furniture and curtains before you build, so you can manoeuvre the longest parts.

The deposit on a room scaffold is always the same

The deposit on a room scaffold is €150. With the other models that amount differs between delivery and collection, with the room scaffold it does not: it is the same either way. So there is nothing to work out about winning on the deposit by collecting, because with this model you only save on the delivery charge.

The deposit is separate from the hire charge and is not a down payment. It has to be in before delivery, and you get it back within one working day after the scaffold is returned. What can be deducted in exceptional cases and how that is handled is on scaffold hire deposit.

When a room scaffold is the wrong choice

The room scaffold is a specialist: low, wide and slim enough for an interior door. As soon as one of those three properties stops matching the job, another model is either cheaper or simply quicker to work from. Usually that is a mobile tower for the height, or a MiTower if you are working on your own.

Collecting in Amsterdam or having it delivered

Collection is free by appointment at Zeeburgerpad 89 in Amsterdam, and with a room scaffold that saves you the whole delivery charge. Delivery costs €150 in the core area and rises to €350 in the furthest province; delivery and collection are covered by that single amount and nothing is charged per kilometre. The rates per province are listed on delivery costs.

Order before 15:00 and it is delivered the next working day, anywhere in the Netherlands. If you are unsure whether the RS44 suits your room, send the measurements over on WhatsApp or read the comparison in mobile tower or room scaffold. Everything about the model itself is on room scaffold hire.
