What a MiTower costs per day

The MiTower starts at €100 for the first hire day. That is the full rate; €175 is the highest day rate listed for this model. Every extra day you keep it costs 5 percent of the day rate, so €5 per day. Three days therefore comes to €110.

That price covers the complete tower: frame, platform, guard rails, stabilisers, the manual and the instruction video. It is Altrex equipment to EN 1004 in load class 3, so 200 kg per m2. You build it yourself. We do not assemble and we do not deliver it erected, so there are no assembly hours on your invoice.

Two things sit outside the day rate: the deposit and, if you have it delivered, the delivery charge. Both are fixed before you order. What the tower is and which dimensions come with it is on MiTower hire.

One person: that is where the real price difference sits

The MiTower is built as a one-person tower, and that changes your costs more than the day rate alone does. An RS51 or RS52 mobile tower has a 245 cm platform and in practice takes two people to put up: passing parts, keeping frames square, fitting rails, setting stabilisers underneath. For the MiTower you do not have to line anyone up.

For a homeowner that means a Saturday you can plan on your own, without waiting until someone is free to help. For a company it means one man drives to the job instead of two. That second man usually costs more than the gap between two day rates, certainly on a job of a few hours.

The second difference is space. The MiTower is narrow and short, so it stands where a wide mobile tower cannot: the path down the side of a house, a porch, the corner of a room with a wardrobe next to it. What a mobile tower costs per day is on mobile tower hire costs.

Who the MiTower is meant for

The MiTower is not a small mobile tower, it is a different tool. It fits this kind of job:

If you are choosing between the two models, mobile tower or MiTower puts them side by side. If the work is indoors and has to pass through a normal internal door, the room scaffold is the model you want: that one is built for it, the MiTower is not.

• You work alone and do not want to depend on a second person for the build.
• The work sits below 6 metres working height: a gutter, a window frame, a light fitting, a ceiling.
• It is short work. A day, a weekend, a week at most.
• One person stands on the platform at a time, with hand tools rather than stacks of material.
• There is little room to build the tower or to move it around.
• You would rather collect it yourself than book a delivery slot.

What hiring for longer costs

The day rate covers day one. After that the 5 percent per day scale simply runs on, weekends included. At the entry rate it looks like this:

If you pick a dearer version the whole column moves up with it, because the 5 percent is calculated on your own day rate. For a MiTower job the step from one day to three days is usually the only one you take: the work this model is meant for rarely runs a month. Deposit: €500 on delivery, €750 on collection

If you have the MiTower delivered, the deposit is €500, the same amount as for the RS51 and the RS52. If you collect it yourself at Zeeburgerpad 89 in Amsterdam, the deposit is €750.

Apart from the delivery charge itself, that is the only point where delivery and collection differ in money: collect it yourself and less of your money is tied up for the duration. The RS51 and RS52 also have a different deposit on collection, while the room scaffold stays at the same amount either way.

The deposit is not a hire cost. You get it back within one working day of return, provided the tower is complete and undamaged. So count it as money that leaves your account for a while, not as what the job costs you. The deposit rules for every model are on scaffold hire deposit.

Collect it yourself or have it delivered

Collection is free, by appointment, at Zeeburgerpad 89 in Amsterdam. With the MiTower that is more often realistic than with a large mobile tower, because there are fewer and shorter parts. Do measure your load space before you set off; what is involved is covered in transporting a scaffold.

If you have it delivered, delivery and collection together cost €150 in the core area, rising to €350 for the furthest provinces, as one fixed amount per province with no mileage; the full list is on delivery costs.

Order before 15:00 and the tower is with you the next working day, anywhere in the Netherlands. Payment has to reach us at the latest one day before delivery, and business invoicing with VAT is possible.

Where the limit sits: 6 metres and one person

The MiTower reaches 6 metres working height. Working height is platform height plus 2 metres, so you stand at 4 metres at most. For ground floor work, the gutter of a low house or a ceiling that is plenty. For a two storey facade it is too short, and no price fixes that.

Above that limit you move to the RS51 or the RS52. The RS51 is 75 cm wide, the RS52 is 135 cm, both with a 245 cm platform length and a working height up to 14.2 metres. The full range runs from 4.2 to 14.2 metres. If your job sits near the limit, look at 6 metres working height and measure from the ground to the point you have to reach, not to the ridge.

The second limit is the number of people. The MiTower is a one-person tower. If two of you need to stand on the platform, or if a stack of plasterboard or a bucket of plaster has to go up beside you, this is the wrong model even when the height works out. The load class says something about kilos per square metre, not about how many people belong on the platform at once.

What a MiTower job costs in practice

Take painting the front of a terraced house at ground level: sanding, priming and topcoating the frames. That is work for one person at around three metres, spread over a Saturday and a Sunday. You hire for three days, €110, plus the €750 deposit if you collect it yourself, which comes back after return.

Have the same tower delivered and €150 is added, while the deposit goes to €500. The hire itself stays €110. That is the whole sum: day rate plus the scale, delivery if you want it, and a deposit you get back.

What usually goes wrong is not the price but the planning. People hire for one day because that looks cheapest, then run into rain or sanding that takes longer than expected. A second day costs €5, less than the trip back and out again. Book a day too many rather than a day too few.
